Chomphet

Chomphet is a district in western Louangphabang Province, located on the opposite bank of the Mekong River from Luang Prabang town. The area is rural with rice farming, orchards, and fishing. The district capital is connected to Luang Prabang by the old ferry crossing. Chomphet offers a quieter, more local perspective on the Luang Prabang area.

The climate is tropical monsoon. November to February is the most pleasant period.

Chomphet is accessible by ferry across the Mekong from Luang Prabang (5 min) or by road via the Luang Prabang bridge (longer route). Songthaews connect to the ferry landing.

Walking and motorbike. Bicycles can be brought across on the ferry.

Limited accommodation. Most visitors stay in Luang Prabang and visit Chomphet on a day trip.
