About Ak-Muz

Ak-Muz (Kyrgyz: Ак-Муз, meaning "White Ice") is a small village in Naryn Region, located about 60 km south of Naryn on the road toward the Torugart Pass. The population is approximately 2,000. The village lies at a high elevation in the At-Bashi Valley, surrounded by stark, semi-arid mountains.

The climate is harsh continental: bitterly cold winters and cool summers. Summer (July–August) is the only viable visiting period. Ak-Muz is a minor stop on the route between Naryn and the Chinese border.
