About Suluktu

Suluktu (Kyrgyz: Сүлүктү) is a small town in Batken Region, northwestern Kyrgyzstan, about 30 km north of Batken town near the border with Tajikistan. It was established as a coal-mining centre in the late 19th century and developed significantly during the Soviet period. The population is roughly 15,000.

The town lies in a valley within the mountain ranges that separate Kyrgyzstan from Tajikistan. Its remote location and mining history give it an isolated, rugged character. Summers are hot and dry, winters cold. The best visiting months are May to September.
