Kozhuf Mountain

Ferizaj District, Kosovo

Why visit Kozhuf Mountain?

Kozhuf Mountain (Albanian: Maletë e Kozhufit; Macedonian: Кожуф) is a mountain range rising to 2,163 m on the Kosovo–North Macedonia border, in the southern part of Ferizaj District. The mountain's southern slopes extend into North Macedonia, where it is known as Kozhuf and is part of the Kozhuf–Jablanica ski area. The Kosovo side is less developed but offers excellent opportunities for hiking, skiing, and enjoying unspoiled mountain scenery.

The mountain is covered with beech and pine forests at lower elevations, transitioning to alpine meadows and rocky ridges above 1,800 m. In winter, heavy snowfall makes Kozhuf one of Kosovo's few skiing destinations, with a small ski centre on the southern (Macedonian) side that can be reached from the Kosovo side. Summer brings wildflowers, grazing cattle, and clear views across both countries.

The best time to visit is December–March for skiing and June–September for hiking and nature walks. The mountain receives significant snowfall in winter, and access roads may be blocked by snow during heavy storms.

In summer, some shepherds in the high pastures may offer cheese and yoghurt — this is informal and cannot be guaranteed.

Where to drink?

Mountain springs provide fresh water at higher elevations. At lower elevations near settlements, purify or filter water as a precaution. Carry a water bottle and purification method for hikes.
