Funyula

Busia, Kenya

Why visit Funyula?

Funyula is a rural administrative and trading town in southern Busia County, Western Kenya, functioning as the central commercial hub for the Samia sub-county. Located inland in the rolling country between the Kenyan-Ugandan border and the northern waters of Lake Victoria, the town centers on smallholder agriculture, livestock trade, and historical Samia iron-smelting traditions.

Travelers use Funyula primarily as an inland staging post to explore the ridges of the Samia Hills, visit early 20th-century Catholic mission landmarks in nearby Nangina, or continue toward the fishing ports of Sio Port and Port Victoria along the Lake Victoria shoreline.

The town lies at an elevation of roughly 1,200 meters above sea level. It experiences a warm tropical climate, with typical daytime temperatures between 26°C and 31°C year-round and evening temperatures cooling to around 16°C to 18°C.
