About Zarqa

Zarqa is Jordan's second-largest city and the capital of Az Zarqā' Governorate, located 25 km northeast of Amman. It is an industrial and commercial centre with a large, diverse population. The city grew rapidly in the 20th century as a hub for military installations and manufacturing.

Zarqa is not a typical tourist destination but offers an authentic look at working-class Jordanian life. The Zarqa River, Jordan's only permanently flowing river, runs through the city. The climate is semi-arid: hot dry summers (30–38 °C) and cool winters (5–12 °C).

How to reach

By Plane

Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) is 40 km south (30 min). A rental car or taxi (15–20 JD) is recommended.

By Train

By Car / Road

Zarqa is 25 km northeast of Amman (30–40 min by highway). Servees taxis and buses run frequently from Amman (1–2 JD).

The city is served by taxis and servees (1–2 JD). Walking is feasible in the central area. Ride-hailing apps work here.
