Muwaqqar

Al 'Asimah, Jordan

Why visit Muwaqqar?

Muwaqqar is a rapidly growing satellite town east of Amman in the Capital Governorate. Once a small desert settlement, it has experienced massive residential expansion since the 2000s as Amman's urban sprawl pushed eastward. New housing developments, schools, and commercial centres now define the area.

The landscape is semi-arid steppe, flatter and more open than hilly central Amman. Muwaqqar's growth reflects Jordan's broader urbanization trends, with young families seeking affordable housing outside the expensive capital core. The climate mirrors Amman's: hot dry summers (30–36 °C) and cool winters (5–12 °C), with less greenery than the western hills.

How do you get there?

By Plane

Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) is approximately 30 km south. Taxis and ride-hailing cost around 18–22 JD and take 25–35 minutes.

By Car / Road

Muwaqqar is reached from Amman via the road heading east from the Marka area or from the airport highway. Driving from central Amman takes 25–35 minutes. Servees taxis may run from eastern Amman but service is irregular.

A car is recommended as the area is spread out. Ride-hailing apps work but with longer wait times. Walking is feasible within individual neighbourhoods but not between them.
