About Marka

Marka is a dense, working-class district in eastern Amman, historically significant as the site of Amman's original airport (Marka Airport, IATA: ADJ). The area is predominantly residential, with a mix of older stone houses, newer apartment blocks, and commercial streets serving the local community. It offers a less polished but authentic view of everyday Amman life compared to the western jabals.

Marka's character is shaped by its role as a transport hub and working neighbourhood. The old airport area retains some aviation infrastructure, though Queen Alia International Airport (30 km south) now handles virtually all commercial flights. The climate matches the rest of Amman: hot dry summers (30–35 °C) and cool winters (5–12 °C).
