Why visit Hachioji?
Hachioji (八王子市) is a city in western Tokyo, located at the foot of the Okutama Mountains. It is the largest city in the Tama area and functions as a regional commercial and transportation hub. Hachioji is best known for Mount Takao (高尾山), a 599-meter mountain that is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the Tokyo area, with over 2.5 million visitors annually.
The city developed as a post station on the Koshu Kaido highway and as a castle town during the Sengoku period. Today it combines a busy city center concentrated around Hachioji Station with access to extensive hiking trails, temples, and nature in the surrounding mountains.
