About Caorle

Caorle is a historic and picturesque coastal town located on the Adriatic Sea in the Veneto region of northern Italy. Often referred to as "Little Venice" due to its charming maze of pastel-colored houses, narrow alleys (calli), and Venetian-style squares (campielli), the town has a rich history dating back to Roman times. Once a bustling fishing port, it has evolved into a popular seaside resort while successfully preserving its maritime heritage and authentic character.

The town is defined by its two main sandy beaches: the Ponente beach to the west and the Levante beach to the east, separated by a scenic dam. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with hot, sunny summers making June to August the peak season. Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) offer milder temperatures and a more tranquil atmosphere, ideal for exploring the historic town center and the surrounding lagoon without the summer crowds. Winters are generally quiet, cool, and damp, with many tourist establishments closing.

How to reach

By Plane

The nearest major airports are Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), located approximately 55 km southwest of Caorle, and Treviso Airport (TSF), about 60 km away. During the summer season, the local transport company ATVO operates direct bus connections from both airports to the Caorle bus station. Alternatively, travellers can take an airport bus to the nearest railway station (Venezia Mestre or San Donà di Piave) and proceed by train and connecting bus. A taxi from Venice Marco Polo Airport to Caorle typically costs around €100 to €120.

By Train

Caorle does not have its own railway station. The closest stations are Portogruaro-Caorle (on the Venice–Trieste line) and San Donà di Piave-Jesolo. Both stations are well-served by regional and regional fast (RV) trains from Venice and Trieste. From either station, frequent ATVO buses run directly to Caorle’s central bus terminal (Autostazione), with a travel time of approximately 30 to 40 minutes. Train tickets can be booked via the Trenitalia website or at station ticket machines.

By Car / Road

When driving from Venice (about 70 km, 1 hour) or Trieste (about 115 km, 1 hour 20 minutes), take the A4 motorway (Venezia–Trieste) and exit at S. Stino di Livenza. From the exit, follow the SP59 provincial road south directly to Caorle. The roads are well-maintained, though traffic can be heavy on summer weekends. Regular bus services operated by ATVO connect Caorle with Venice (Piazzale Roma), San Donà di Piave, and Portogruaro.

Caorle's historic center is compact and largely pedestrianized, making it highly walkable. Cycling is one of the most popular ways to get around, with extensive bike paths linking the town center to the beaches and the lagoon. Bike rental shops are widely available throughout the town, with daily rates starting around €10 to €15. For longer distances, ATVO operates local urban bus lines connecting the center with Porto Santa Margherita and Duna Verde. Ride-hailing apps are not commonly used; local taxis can be booked by phone.
