Bardolino
Veneto, Italy
Why visit Bardolino?
Bardolino is a town on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, in the province of Verona, whose economy is built on lake tourism and wine — it gives its name to Bardolino DOC, a light red wine long associated with the Garda area. Its name has Lombard origins, and the site has been settled since the Bronze Age (stilt-house remains have been found nearby), with later Roman-era finds. The medieval town grew up around a castle built in 983, and from the mid-1300s the Scaliger (della Scala) family of Verona fortified the town and controlled Lake Garda's eastern shore before it passed to Venetian rule in the early 1400s.
