Why visit Vinci?
Vinci is a small hilltop town in the Metropolitan City of Florence, Tuscany, known worldwide as the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci, born nearby in 1452. The town's Museo Leonardiano, housed in the medieval Castello dei Conti Guidi, exhibits large-scale wooden models built from Leonardo's technical drawings. About 3 km outside town, in the hamlet of Anchiano, the Casa Natale di Leonardo (Leonardo's birth house) marks the traditional site of his birth and is reachable on foot from Vinci via the Strada Verde, a walking path through olive groves and vineyards. The surrounding countryside, planted with olives and vines on the slopes of Montalbano, is typical of the rural Tuscan landscape that shaped Leonardo's early life.
