Why visit Senigallia?
Senigallia is a fishing port and beach town of around 45,000–50,000 people on the Adriatic coast in the province of Ancona. It is known for its "Spiaggia di Velluto" (Velvet Beach), a stretch of unusually fine, soft golden sand running for roughly 12–13 km, and for La Rocca Roveresca, a well-preserved fortress with origins as a Roman defensive tower, rebuilt into its present Renaissance form in the late 15th century for Giovanni della Rovere by the architects Luciano Laurana and Baccio Pontelli; it later served as a prison and as shelter for abandoned children under a religious order, and today is open to the public as a museum. Along the beach, La Rotonda a Mare, a circular pier-side pavilion, is a longstanding local landmark. In town, Corso 2 Giugno ("Il Corso"), a pedestrianized street lined with cafés and shops, is the traditional evening gathering spot where locals stroll, meet friends, and socialize.

What are the things to do?
La Rocca Roveresca is Senigallia's principal historic sight: a fortress with Roman-era origins, rebuilt in Renaissance form in the late 15th century under Giovanni della Rovere by architects Luciano Laurana and Baccio Pontelli, later used as a prison and as a children's shelter, and now open to the public as a museum. La Rotonda a Mare, a circular pavilion built out over the water, is a landmark structure on the beachfront. The Spiaggia di Velluto itself — the fine-sand "Velvet Beach" — is the town's best-known feature, and Corso 2 Giugno is the pedestrianized street where the evening passeggiata happens.
