Fidenza

Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Why visit Fidenza?

Fidenza, historically known as Borgo San Donnino, is the largest town in Parma province after the city of Parma itself, and was a key stop on the Via Francigena, the medieval pilgrimage route linking Canterbury to Rome. Its Romanesque cathedral, overseen in construction and sculpture by Benedetto Antelami around the turn of the 12th century, has a facade with bas-reliefs and statues addressed to the pilgrims who passed through. Positioned on the Via Emilia midway between Piacenza and Parma, the town remains a stop for present-day pilgrims walking the Via Francigena, and is also known for the Fidenza Village designer outlet on its outskirts.
