Maiori
Campania, Italy
Why visit Maiori?
Maiori is laid out in an L-shape along the Amalfi Coast, with a road and promenade running along the beach and the wide pedestrian street Corso Reginna running perpendicular to it, lined with shops, bars, and restaurants (and sometimes a night market). It has the longest beach on the Amalfi Coast, a roughly kilometer-long stretch of sand that took its present form after severe flooding in 1954 reshaped the seafront. Above the town, the Collegiata Santuario di Santa Maria a Mare, a church dating to the 13th century with a majolica-tiled dome typical of the coast's churches, is one of the Amalfi Coast's most venerated pilgrimage sites. The Torre Normanna, a 16th-century watchtower built to defend against pirate raids, overlooks the main beach and is the town's emblem.

Ask on WhatsAppHow do you get there?
Maiori sits on the SS163 Amalfitana coastal road and is served by SITA buses linking it with Amalfi, Salerno, and the rest of the coast; seasonal ferries also call here. The nearest railway station is in Salerno.
The town's L-shaped layout along the beach and Corso Reginna is walkable; buses connect Maiori with neighboring coastal towns for longer trips.
What are the things to do?
The Collegiata Santuario di Santa Maria a Mare, on a promontory above the town with its majolica dome, and the Torre Normanna, a 16th-century watchtower above the beach, are the main sights, along with the beach and promenade themselves.
Swimming on the Amalfi Coast's longest beach, walking Corso Reginna, and hiking trails into the hills above town (including routes toward the Valle delle Ferriere) are the main activities.
