Agropoli
Campania, Italy
Why visit Agropoli?
Agropoli is a seaside town at the northern edge of the Cilento coast in Campania, its name derived from the Greek "Acropolis," reflecting its origins as a fortified settlement controlling the coast. It has been inhabited since antiquity, later becoming a small Roman port; the town's promontory was fortified through the Byzantine, Norman, Angevin, and Aragonese periods, and its Castello Angioino-Aragonese, with its triangular plan and rounded corner towers, still dominates the old town today. Agropoli serves as a gateway to the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park and the wider Cilento coast further south.

Ask on WhatsAppHow do you get there?
Agropoli has its own railway station on the line connecting Salerno with the Cilento coast, and lies just off the SS18/A2 road from Salerno heading south.
The old town on the promontory is compact and walkable; the modern town below spreads along the coast.
What are the things to do?
The Castello Angioino-Aragonese, a fortified castle with a triangular plan and rounded towers dating in its present form to the 14th–15th centuries, sits atop the old town's promontory and offers views over the Gulf of Salerno. The historic center around it retains its medieval street layout.
Walking the old town, visiting the castle, and using Agropoli's beaches and harbor as a base for exploring the Cilento coast are the main activities.
