Kaleybar

Kaleybar (کلیبر) is a town in northeastern Āz̄ārbāyjān-e Shārqī Province, in the forested mountains near the Azerbaijan border. It is famous for Babak Fort (Ghaleh-e Babak), the mountain stronghold of Babak Khorramdin, a 9th-century Persian commander who led a rebellion against the Abbasid Caliphate. The area is known for its dense forests, rivers, and dramatic mountain scenery.

The climate is mountainous, with cold winters and mild, pleasant summers.

Kaleybar is about 150 km northeast of Tabriz (2.5 hours) via Ahar. The road winds through scenic valleys. Minibuses from Tabriz.

A car or taxi is essential for reaching Babak Fort. The town itself is walkable.
