Tenggarong

Why visit Tenggarong?
Tenggarong is the capital of Kutai Kartanegara Regency in East Kalimantan, located on the Mahakam River about 30 km downstream from Samarinda. The town was the seat of the Kutai Sultanate, one of the oldest Hindu kingdoms in Indonesia, dating back to the 4th century. Today, Tenggarong is best known for the Museum Mulawarman, housed in the former Sultan's palace, and its position on the Mahakam River.
The town has a population of around 80,000 and is a popular day trip from Samarinda. The riverfront is lively with traditional pinisi boats, floating fish restaurants, and the bustle of river trade. Tenggarong preserves much of its historical character alongside modern development.
The climate is tropical with year-round temperatures of 24–33°C.
