Sintang

Why visit Sintang?

Sintang is the capital of Sintang Regency in West Kalimantan, located at the confluence of the Kapuas and Melawi rivers. The town of around 50,000 people is a historic river port and an important stop on the Trans-Kalimantan highway between Pontianak and Putussibau. It is known for its traditional Dayak longhouses and the historic Sintang Palace.

The town's history stretches back to the Sintang Sultanate, a Dayak kingdom that controlled the upper Kapuas region. The Sultan's palace still stands as a museum. Sintang is the last major town before the road deteriorates heading east into the remote interior of West Kalimantan.

The climate is tropical with year-round temperatures of 24–33°C.
