Muara Teweh
Kalimantan, Indonesia
Why visit Muara Teweh?
Muara Teweh is the capital of North Barito Regency in Central Kalimantan, located at the confluence of the Barito and Teweh rivers. It is an important river port and market town serving the surrounding agricultural and mining region. The town of about 50,000 people is a centre for the Dayak and Banjar communities that inhabit this part of Central Kalimantan.
The town's name means "the meeting of the Teweh River" — reflecting its location at the confluence. It is the last significant settlement before the vast wilderness of northern Central Kalimantan. Muara Teweh has a relaxed, frontier-town atmosphere and is known for its river scenery and access to Dayak cultural sites.
The climate is tropical, with temperatures of 24–33°C and heavy rainfall November–April.
