Why visit Omkareshwar?
Omkareshwar is a river island in the Narmada River in the shape of Om (ॐ), in Madhya Pradesh, 80 km from Indore. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Shiva in Hinduism, making it a major pilgrimage destination. The island is connected to the mainland by two footbridges, and the twin temples of Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar (Amareshwar) are the main attractions. The town is small and can be explored on foot.
The climate is tropical, with hot summers (March–June, 35–42°C), a monsoon season (June–September), and mild winters (October–February, 15–28°C). The best time to visit is October to March. Major festivals like Mahashivaratri draw large crowds.
