Munich

Saint Andrew, Grenada

About Munich

Munich is a small inland village in the spice-growing highlands of Saint Andrew parish, Grenada. The village has a distinctive Germanic place name that contrasts with the predominantly French and English colonial nomenclature of the rest of Grenada. The origin of the name is unclear — it may reflect a colonial-era landowner or a historical connection — but it gives the village a memorable identity.

Munich sits at elevation in the interior hills, surrounded by nutmeg, cocoa, and other spice plantations. The setting is typical of highland Saint Andrew: steep, green hillsides, cool breezes, and panoramic views across the interior valleys. The community is small and agricultural, with no commercial infrastructure.

The climate is tropical but noticeably cooler than the coast due to elevation. The dry season (January–May) is the best time for walking and exploration. The wet season brings mist and heavy rains to the highlands.
