About Kokrobite
Kokrobite is a laid-back beach village on the Atlantic coast, about 25 km west of Accra. Despite its proximity to the capital, it feels a world away from the city's noise and congestion — a narrow strip of golden sand lined with coconut palms, reggae bars, and backpacker lodges. The village has long been a favourite escape for budget travellers, surfers, and anyone seeking the classic Ghanaian beach experience: hammocks, cold Club beer, and the sound of the Atlantic swell.
The village economy centres on fishing and tourism. Colourful pirogues line the beach, and the daily catch is hauled ashore each morning. Kokrobite's character is distinctly relaxed, with a bohemian, almost hippie atmosphere that has mellowed over decades. The best time to visit is during the dry Harmattan months (November to March) when humidity is lowest. The beach can experience strong currents — always ask about swimming conditions before entering the water.

The tro-tro drops you at the main road, from where Big Milly's Backyard and other beachfront hotels are a short walk down signposted dirt tracks.

Sunset over the Atlantic — The west-facing beach offers superb sunset views.

Surfing — Kokrobite has consistent beach breaks suitable for beginners and intermediate surfers; boards can be rented at Big Milly's.
Drumming and dance lessons — Informal lessons are often available at the lodges; ask around.
