Farafenni

North Bank, Gambia

Why visit Farafenni?

Farafenni, sometimes called Chakubanta or Faracity, is the largest town in North Bank Division, with a population of roughly 25,000. It sits on the Trans-Gambia Highway just south of the Senegal border, about 120 km inland from Banjul, and functions as a key trade point between Dakar and Senegal's Casamance region. Wolof is the main local language, alongside Mandinka, Fula, and others. The central marketplace is the town's commercial hub, and a large open-air weekly lumo market on the outskirts on Sundays draws traders from both sides of the border.
