Albreda

North Bank, Gambia

Why visit Albreda?

Albreda is a historic village in North Bank Division on the north shore of the Gambia River. It was a Portuguese slave-trading post from the 15th century and later a French trading settlement. The Albreda Museum documents the transatlantic slave trade, and the village is part of the "Roots" heritage trail linked to Alex Haley's book. The Maurel Freres building, a former French trading post, still stands.
