Why visit : Bormes-les-Mimosas?

Bormes-les-Mimosas is a medieval hillside village in the Var department, set on a steep hill just inland from the Côte d'Azur between Hyères and Saint-Tropez. It is classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France and takes its name from the mimosa trees that blanket the surrounding hills, blooming in brilliant yellow from January to March. The village has famously steep terrain with narrow, winding streets, arches, and flower-adorned stairways.

The old village is a maze of medieval alleys, flower-decked walls, and small squares. The Château des Seigneurs de Foz at the top offers panoramic coastal views. The church (Église Saint-Trophyme) and tiny chapels are worth exploring. The Fort de Brégançon (the French presidential residence) is just offshore. The surrounding hills are covered in mimosa forests.

Hike the mimosa trails in winter and early spring (Sentier du Mimosa). The beaches at Le Lavandou, Plage de l'Estagnol, and Plage de Cabasson are excellent. Water sports and boat excursions from Le Lavandou. The Bormes market (Thursdays and Sundays) is a lively Provençal affair.
