About : Albi
Albi is the capital of the Tarn department in Occitanie, renowned for its stunning red-brick architecture centered around the colossal Sainte-Cécile Cathedral. The historic Episcopal City (Cité Épiscopale) is a UNESCO World Heritage site, reflecting the city's medieval power as a bastion of the Catholic Church during the Albigensian Crusade. The city sits on the banks of the Tarn River and offers a compact, walkable centre with a lively cultural scene.

Albi has its own railway station (Gare d'Albi-Ville) with direct TER regional trains from Toulouse (about 1 hour). By car, the A68 motorway connects Toulouse to Albi in roughly 1 hour. The nearest airport is Toulouse-Blagnac.
The historic centre of Albi is best explored on foot, as most main attractions are within a short walk of one another. The narrow medieval streets and riverside promenades are pedestrian-friendly. For outlying areas, the local bus network covers the town.
Things to do
The dominant attraction is the Cathédrale Sainte-Cécile, a massive brick Gothic cathedral that dominates the skyline and contains a stunning Italian Renaissance frescoed interior. Adjoining it is the Palais de la Berbie, housing the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum with the world's largest collection of works by the native-born artist. The old town's narrow streets are lined with red-brick townhouses.
Walk the riverside paths along the Tarn, or take a boat cruise for a different perspective on the Episcopal City. Albi hosts a vibrant Christmas market and summer festivals including the Festival Pause Guitare. Wine tasting tours in the surrounding Gaillac wine region are a popular day trip.
