Why visit Cherbourg?

Cherbourg (officially Cherbourg-en-Cotentin since 2016) is a major port city on the Cotentin Peninsula in northern Normandy. It has been a strategic maritime gateway for centuries, serving transatlantic liners and military vessels. The city is best known today for the Cité de la Mer, a vast aquarium and maritime museum housed in the former transatlantic terminal.
