About Kirkkonummi
It is home to about 41,000 people (31 December 2023)
Most of the municipality is traditionally Swedish-speaking, with Finnish spoken in the remote northern parts. However, with urbanisation and commuting to Helsinki, the majority has turned Finnish (75% as of 2024).
The old parish of Kirkkonummi was founded in the 14th century, and one of the most important historical roads in the country, the so-called " King's Road " between

Kirkkonummi is 30 km west of Helsinki, part of the HSL regional public transport cooperation (see Helsinki#Get around ; Kirkkonummi is zone D). For coaches, see Matkahuolto. The centre is half a kilometre north of highway 51 (Länsiväylä, Västerleden) between
By Car / Road
See Helsinki#Get around for tickets and online timetable services of the region's public transport (HSL/HRT). The HSL trains and buses use uniform tickets (Kirkkonummi is zone D). For the odd journey, just pay with your NFC debit or credit card (use the same card to travel freely in the zone for 1 hr 40 min). A single ticket is €3.50 (2026).
The town (locals say byn , "the village") is sufficiently small to get around in by foot: 1.2 km from Munkinmäki to Pappilanmäki, which covers most points of interest. However, for sights further away, the most practical mode of transportation is your own car. For islands, you may want a boat or kayak. The tip of the Porkkala peninsula is 20 km south of the centre, Veikkola 20 km north of it.
As of 2025, there are a lot of construction and roadworks going on in the north-eastern parts of the centre. Be prepared for detours.
The bus and railway stations are in the south part of the centre. Tickets can be bought in the R-kiosk occupying the former railway station building (or the one closer to the library), or you can pay by card on the regional trains (online for non-HSL trains). You can pay by card also on the buses and coaches.
By bus
There is reasonably good public transport. Local bus services include:

It was built for Finnish-speaking worshippers in the remote northern parts of the municipality. It was the main church of the parish during the Porkkala parenthesis, when the parish village was in Soviet hands. Services in Finnish were begun in the 18th century; the current church was taken into use in 1823.
There are many opportunities for outdoor life: lake- and seashore beaches (also winter swimming available), woods and archipelago, trails for walking, jogging and biking, tracks for cross-country skiing, horse riding stables, five golf courses and a downhill skiing centre. There are also facilities for indoor skating and swimming.

What to buy
For groceries, the centre has a Citymarket (in Kirsikka), a big Prisma (across the railway from Kirsikka) and a big Lidl by Munkinmäentie (see below). There are smaller grocery stores e.g. by the church and the library (a Sale, with a cobbler's, fleamarkets and Posti and Matkahuolto parcel kiosks), in Masala and by Tolsa railway stop, probably in most sub-centres.
In addition to those in the centre proper, there are some smaller shops along Munkinmäentie just south from the railway centre and large stores farther down the road. The latter include budget interior design (Rusta) and a hardware store, also with some interior design (K-rauta).
