Sakyla

Satakunta, Finland

Why visit Sakyla?

Säkylä sits on the shore of Lake Pyhäjärvi, the largest lake in southwestern Finland and one of the region's richest fisheries, known for clean water and catches of vendace, whitefish, and signal crayfish. The municipality is also home to the Huovinrinne Garrison, an army base established in 1963 on the Säkylänharju ridge — a rare glacial esker formation whose open, sun-exposed slopes (kept clear of forest by military exercises) support insect species found nowhere else in Finland.
