Ulvila
Satakunta, Finland
Why visit Ulvila?
Ulvila is one of Finland's six medieval towns and the country's second-oldest after Turku, granted town rights by King Albrekt of Mecklenburg in 1365. In the Middle Ages it was the northernmost town of the Swedish realm and an important Gulf of Bothnia trading post. Settlement shifted to Ulvila from the older site of Liikistö nearby after the Kokemäenjoki river receded in the 14th century, stranding Liikistö's unfinished stone church.
