Mhlambanyatsi
Manzini, Eswatini
Why visit Mhlambanyatsi?
Mhlambanyatsi is a small town in the highlands of western Manzini Region, situated in the Mdzimba Mountains at an elevation of around 1,200 metres. Its name means "place of swimming" in siSwati, referring to the cold, clear streams that run through the area. The town developed as a hill station and resort destination during the colonial era, capitalising on its cooler climate and forested surroundings.
The area is dominated by commercial pine and eucalyptus plantations managed by Eswatini's forestry industry. The centrepiece is the Mhlambanyatsi Golf Club, an 18-hole course set among the trees. The climate is significantly cooler than the lowveld, making Mhlambanyatsi a popular weekend retreat for residents escaping the heat of Manzini and Mbabane.
