Pimentel

Cibao Nordeste, Dominican Republic

Why visit Pimentel?

Pimentel is a municipality in the Duarte province of the Cibao Nordeste region, located on the southern edge of the Cordillera Septentrional mountains. With a population of roughly 15,000, it is a small agricultural town surrounded by cacao plantations, coffee groves, and cattle ranches. The town is named after the Pimentel family, prominent in Dominican history.

The town sits at the transition between the mountain foothills and the northern coastal plain, giving it a slightly elevated position with views over the surrounding lowlands. Pimentel has a quiet, traditional atmosphere with a small central plaza, a modest church, and a market serving the local farming community. It is not a tourist destination but offers an authentic rural Dominican experience.

The climate is tropical, with temperatures averaging 23–31°C, slightly cooler than the lowland areas due to the elevation. The driest months are December through April.
