About Hrensko
Hrensko is a small village in the Ústecký kraj region of north-western Czechia, situated on the Elbe River at the Czech-German border. It is best known as the gateway to the Edmund and Wild gorges on the Kamenice River, which are among the most spectacular natural attractions in Bohemian Switzerland National Park. The village lies at the point where the Elbe leaves the Czech Republic and enters Germany, in a dramatic landscape of sandstone cliffs and dense forests.
Hrensko has a long history as a border crossing and trading point. Before World War II, the population was predominantly German-speaking. Today, the village is small, with a permanent population of only a few hundred, but it swells with tourists in summer who come to hike the gorges and visit Pravcicka Brana. The climate is temperate continental, with the best visiting season from May through October when the gorge boat services operate.
