Kladno

Středočeský kraj, Czechia

Why visit Kladno?

Kladno is a city of approximately 68,000 people in Central Bohemia, the largest city in the Středočeský kraj region. Located about 17 km northwest of Prague, it has a rich industrial history centred on the Poldi steel factory. Since economic restructuring in the 1990s, heavy industry has largely been replaced by services and light industry.

The city features several notable churches and historic buildings, including a Baroque castle and a Neoromanesque church on the main square. The Lidice Memorial, commemorating a village destroyed by the Nazis in 1942, is a powerful reminder of wartime atrocities.

The climate follows the continental pattern with warm summers and cold winters. Kladno is easily visited year-round as a day trip from Prague.
