About Jilemnice

Jilemnice is a small town in the Liberec Region of north-eastern Czechia, situated in the Jizera Mountains foothills. With a population of approximately 6,000, it is known for its well-preserved historic centre and as a gateway to the Jizera Mountains. The town has a charming main square with colourful burgher houses and several historic buildings.

The surrounding landscape is dominated by the Jizera Mountains, with forested hills and mountain streams. The climate is continental with cool summers and cold winters. The best time to visit is May through September for hiking and sightseeing. The town is small enough to explore on foot in a few hours.

How to reach

By Plane

The nearest international airport is Prague Václav Havel Airport (PRG, IATA), approximately 140 km south. From the airport, travel to Prague and take a train or bus to Jilemnice (approximately 2.5 hr). Dresden Airport (DRS, IATA) is about 90 km north.

By Train

Jilemnice has a train station on the regional line connecting Prague with the Polish border. Trains from Prague main station take approximately 2.5 hours. The station is a short walk from the town centre.

By Car / Road

From Prague, drive north on the D10 motorway and continue to Jilemnice (approximately 2 hr, ~140 km). From Liberec, drive north (approximately 30 min, ~40 km). Roads are well maintained.

Jilemnice is a small, walkable town. Most attractions are within a 10-minute walk of the main square. Local buses connect with Liberec and surrounding villages.
