Why visit Kouklia?
Kouklia is a historic village in the Paphos District of Cyprus, built on the site of Palaepaphos (Old Paphos), one of the most important ancient city-kingdoms of Cyprus and a legendary center of worship for the goddess Aphrodite. According to mythology, Aphrodite rose from the sea foam near this area, making the site a major pilgrimage destination in the ancient Greek and Roman worlds. Today, the village blends its rich archaeological heritage with a quiet, traditional Cypriot character, surrounded by agricultural fields, olive groves, and modern resort developments.
The climate in Kouklia is typically Mediterranean, characterized by hot, dry summers from June to September and mild, wetter winters from December to February. Spring (April to May) and autumn (October to November) are the most pleasant times to visit, offering comfortable temperatures for exploring the outdoor archaeological sites. The village itself centers around a charming public square lined with tavernas, while the archaeological sites and the coastal landmarks like Petra tou Romiou lie just outside the residential core.

Alternatively, visitors can take local buses into Paphos city center and transfer to regional services, though renting a car directly from the airport is the most convenient option.

Cyprus has no active railway network.
By Car / Road
Kouklia is easily accessible by car via the A6 highway, which connects Paphos and Limassol. From Paphos, the drive is about 15 minutes (16 km), and from Limassol, it takes approximately 40 minutes (50 km).
