About Palaichori

Palaichori (Greek: Παλαιχώρι) is a historic and picturesque mountain village in the Pitsilia region of the Troodos Mountains, situated at an altitude of 930 meters. The village is unique because it is divided into two distinct administrative municipalities—Palaichori Oreinis and Palaichori Morfou—by the Serrachis River, which flows through the center of the settlement.

Palaichori is surrounded by steep, pine-covered mountain peaks, terraced vineyards, and hazelnut orchards. It has a rich history dating back to at least the Byzantine era. The village is home to the Church of the Metamorphosis tou Sotiros (Transfiguration of the Saviour), a 16th-century chapel designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The climate is alpine-influenced, with cool, pleasant summers and cold, snowy winters. Palaichori is highly regarded for its traditional stone-built architecture, its historic churches, and its excellent hiking opportunities.
