About Engomi

Engomi (Greek: Έγκωμη) is a wealthy, upscale municipality and western suburb of the Nicosia metropolitan area. It is widely recognized as a major educational, diplomatic, and residential hub for the capital.

Engomi is home to the main campuses of the University of Nicosia and the European University Cyprus, giving the suburb a young, vibrant, and cosmopolitan atmosphere. The municipality also hosts the "diplomatic quarter" of Cyprus, housing numerous foreign embassies, including the embassies of the United States, Russia, Egypt, and France.

The climate is semi-arid, with very hot, dry summers and mild winters. Engomi is characterized by wide, tree-lined avenues, luxurious villas, modern apartment buildings, and a lively social scene centered around the university student population.

How to reach

By Plane

Engomi does not have an airport.

  • Larnaca International Airport (IATA: LCA) is the closest, located 50 km southeast (approx. 35–40 minutes by car).
  • Paphos International Airport (IATA: PFO) is 135 km southwest.

By Train

By Car / Road

Engomi is easily reached from central Nicosia by driving west along Griva Digeni Avenue or Prodromou Avenue (approx. 5–10 minutes). It is also accessible from the Nicosia orbit roads.

OSEL buses provide regular connections:

  • Bus 115 and Bus 127 connect central Nicosia (Solomou Square) to Engomi and the university campuses.

Engomi is relatively compact and many areas, particularly around the universities, are highly walkable. However, a car is useful for traveling between the residential and commercial zones. OSEL buses and local taxis are readily available.
