Maisi
Guantánamo, Cuba
Why visit Maisi?
Maisí (also spelled Maysí) is the easternmost municipality in Cuba, located at the tip of the island where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea. The area is known for its dramatic coastline, the Maisí Lighthouse (Faro de Maisí), and the remote, unspoiled landscape. The municipality is part of the Guantánamo province and is one of the most isolated and least-visited areas in Cuba.
The landscape is characterized by arid coastal scrubland, limestone cliffs, and secluded beaches. The contrast between the dry eastern tip and the lush mountains of nearby Baracoa is striking. The local economy is based on fishing and small-scale agriculture. The area has a small population living in scattered villages.
The climate is drier than most of eastern Cuba, with less rainfall year-round. The best time to visit is during the dry season (November–April). The coast can be windy, particularly on the Atlantic side.
