Why visit Lajas?
Lajas is a small town in western Cienfuegos province, Cuba, located approximately 40 km west of Cienfuegos city. Founded in 1824, the town has a population of around 12,000 and serves as the administrative centre of the eponymous municipality. The surrounding area is flat agricultural land devoted to sugar cane, tobacco, and cattle ranching.
Lajas has a quiet, unhurried character typical of Cuba's agricultural interior. The central plaza is modest, with a church and surrounding buildings. The economy is based on sugar production and livestock. The climate is tropical, with a dry season from November to April and a wet season from May to October.
The town is not a tourist destination and sees virtually no foreign visitors. It offers an authentic glimpse of everyday Cuban life in a rural setting.

The nearest airport is Jaime González Airport (CFG) in Cienfuegos, approximately 45 km east. No flights serve Lajas directly.
By Car / Road
Lajas is accessible from Cienfuegos via local roads west (approximately 40 km, 45 minutes). Roads are paved. No Viazul service; private transport required.
The town centre is small and walkable. Bici-taxis are available. No formal public transport.
