Najasa
Camagüey, Cuba
Why visit Najasa?
Najasa is a small rural settlement in southern Camagüey Province, located about 90 km south of the provincial capital. With a population of only a few thousand, it is one of the most isolated and least-known communities in the province. The town sits in flat, low-lying terrain near the southern coast, surrounded by wetlands, sugar cane fields, and cattle ranches.
Najasa's history is tied to the sugar industry and to the rural communities that formed around the centrales azucareros (sugar mills) of southern Camagüey. The climate is tropical, with hot summers (30–33°C) and a rainy season from May to October. The best months to visit are November to April.
The settlement is very small, with a basic central area and scattered houses. Infrastructure is minimal, and visitors should be prepared for a very basic experience. This is a destination for travellers seeking an authentic, unmediated look at rural Cuban life.
