About Jimaguayu

Jimaguayú is a small town in central Camagüey Province, located about 40 km southwest of the provincial capital. With a population of roughly 8,000, it is an agricultural community set in flat, sugar-cane-growing countryside. The town has a quiet, unhurried character and is virtually unknown to international tourists.

Jimaguayú's history is rooted in the colonial sugar economy. The area was settled during the expansion of sugar cultivation in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the sugar industry remains central to the local economy. The climate is tropical, with hot summers (30–33°C) and a rainy season from May to October. The drier months from November to April are the best time to visit.

The town follows the standard Cuban provincial layout: a central park, a church, municipal buildings, and modest residential streets. The surrounding flatlands are devoted to sugar cane and cattle.
