Loango

Loango is a coastal village in Kouilou department, situated on the Atlantic Ocean approximately 30 km north of Pointe-Noire. The village is a fishing community with black-sand beaches and a dramatic coastline of cliffs and surf. It is the nearest beach destination to Pointe-Noire and popular with local visitors on weekends.

The climate is tropical coastal, moderated by the Benguela Current. Temperatures range from 22°C to 30°C (72–86°F) year-round.

Pointe-Noire Airport (PNR) is the nearest air access (30 km south).

By Car / Road

Loango is 30 km north of Pointe-Noire on a paved coastal road. Shared taxis from Pointe-Noire run regularly (XAF 2,000–3,000, 40 minutes).

Walkable. The beach area stretches for several kilometres.

• Atlantic beaches — Black-sand beaches with strong surf and dramatic coastal cliffs.

• Côte Sauvage — The wild coastline extends north and south of Loango.

• Beach walking — The beaches are good for long walks, especially at low tide.

• Swimming — Exercise extreme caution — the surf is strong and there are no lifeguards.

Small beachfront eateries serve grilled fish and seafood with cassava.

Bars and kiosks sell beer and soft drinks. Bottled water essential.

• Budget: Basic rooms available in private homes or small guesthouses, XAF 10,000–20,000.

Small shops sell basic supplies. Fresh fish from the village landing.

• Pointe-Noire (30 km south, 40 minutes) — The economic capital, with full services.
• Conkouati-Douli National Park (50 km north, 1.5 hours) — Coastal and marine park.
