Kelle

Kellé is a small town in northern Cuvette-Ouest department, situated in a clearing in the equatorial rainforest. It is a quiet administrative post with a market, a school, and basic services. The surrounding forest is dense and largely undisturbed. Life is slow and traditional, centred on subsistence farming and the weekly market.

Nearest air access: Owando Airport (180 km east) or Ewo airstrip.

By Car / Road

Kellé is 40 km north of Ewo on an unpaved road. A 4WD vehicle is essential. The road can be impassable during the rainy season (October–May).

Walkable.

• Surrounding rainforest — The forest edge begins at the edge of town; a short walk reveals the scale and density of the vegetation.

• Guided walk into the forest — Local guides can lead short walks to learn about forest plants and animal tracks.

Small food stalls serve simple Congolese meals on market days.

Soft drinks and bottled water available at village kiosks.

No formal accommodation. Visit as a day trip from Ewo.

Basic produce at the weekly market.

• Ewo (40 km south, 1 hour) — The departmental capital.
• Etoumbi (30 km north, 45 minutes) — A small river town.
