About Puerto Cisnes
Puerto Cisnes is a small fishing village on the shores of the Cisnes River estuary in the Aisén Region of Chilean Patagonia. Founded in the early 20th century by settlers and fishermen, the town of about 5,000 inhabitants maintains a quiet, off-the-beaten-path character. It lies at the foot of the Andes where the river meets the Puyuhuapi Channel, giving it stunning views of snow-capped peaks and dense temperate rainforest.
The climate is maritime cool oceanic (Cfb), with heavy rainfall exceeding 2,500 mm annually. Summers (Dec–Feb) are mild with temperatures around 10–16°C; winters (Jun–Aug) are chilly and wet with occasional snow. The most pleasant months are January and February, when rainfall is lowest and the days are long.
Puerto Cisnes is best known among travellers for its proximity to the Queulat National Park, the Puyuhuapi Fjord, and excellent sea-kayaking conditions.
