Yarda

About Yarda

Yarda is a tiny settlement in the northern Borkou region, situated in the transition zone between the Erg of Borkou and the rocky slopes of the Tibesti massif. It is not a village in the conventional sense but rather a scattering of nomadic encampments and a few semi-permanent structures used by herders moving between seasonal pastures. The population is composed mainly of Toubou and Zaghawa pastoralists who live in goat-hair tents and move with their camel and goat herds according to the rains. There is no shop, no school, no clinic, and no fixed water source beyond seasonal wells that may be dry for much of the year. Yarda is a destination only for the most self-sufficient desert travellers.
