Overview

Haute-Kotto is a prefecture in eastern Central African Republic, bordering South Sudan. The prefectural capital is Bria, the country's third-largest city. The area is remote, with limited infrastructure and a challenging security environment due to armed group activity. The economy is based on gold and diamond mining, and subsistence agriculture. Only the most experienced and well-prepared travellers should consider visiting this region.

When to Visit

The dry season (November–April) is the only safe window for travel. Roads are largely impassable during the rains.
