Why visit Mbengwi?

Mbengwi is the capital of Momo Division in Cameroon's North-West Region, about 20 km west of Bamenda, at altitudes ranging from roughly 900 m to 2,000 m. It is the traditional home of the Meta people (with some settlers from the neighbouring Ngie and Oshie groups). The town's name comes from the Meta language and traditionally meant "a land of wild animals," reflecting its precolonial use as a hunting ground before it became a colonial-era administrative seat; the council hall built in 1941 now serves as the Mbengwi Municipal Library, and the modern Mbengwi Rural Council was created in 1977. The council area comprises 29 villages.
