Overview

Plateau-Central is a region in central Burkina Faso, sitting on the Mossi Plateau. The capital is Ziniare.

When to Visit

The best time to visit Plateau-Central is during the cool dry season from November to February, when daytime temperatures hover around 30–33 °C, nights are pleasantly cool, and the harmattan haze keeps direct sun in check — ideal for exploring Ouagadougou and the surrounding Mossi Plateau. The hot dry shoulder months of March and May bring scorching afternoons (often above 38 °C) with clear skies and dust-laden air, making outdoor sightseeing draining but accommodation prices lower. The rainy season from June through September is the off-season: heavy afternoon downpours turn unpaved roads muddy, humidity climbs, and malaria risk rises, though the landscape turns lush green. If your trip coincides with February in an odd-numbered year, time it around FESPACO, the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou — the continent's premier cinema event transforms the capital for a week of screenings, parades, and open-air performances.
